Medical book with complex tables creates an interesting challenge.
FSRH is a faculty of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists dealing with family planning and reproductive healthcare. They approached Page Lizard with the challenge of re-inventing their main guidance publication for clinicians, the UK Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use (UK MEC).
In print the UK MEC is a large book publication with pages of complex tables. The biggest challenge was to create the tables in a responsive framework for display through the browser-based webviewer.
As we had to create all of the tables for the digital version we also took the unusual decision to layout and create the print version as well. Thus producing one flow of content and corrections, making the process as efficient as possible for the expert clinicians who author the UK MEC.
The book is divided into three sections and both the searchability of the digital edition as well as the nested navigation make it easy for clinicians to jump straight to data they are looking for.
The UK MEC is freely available to any user and can be seen here.
