Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is on a bit of a roll. More professional bodies are offering CPD courses for members and achieving CPD targets is increasingly becoming mandatory for participants.
Some regulatory bodies are also increasing the frequency on which they collect CPD submissions encouraged by the belief, it seems, that submissions can be more easily sent, and verified, digitally.
But what is the truth? Is technology making CPD more accessible to members and making it easier to verify without drowning the regulators in masses of paperwork?
And, with the introduction of apps, ‘gamification’ and peer-to-peer networking, is the process of recording and completing your CPD becoming more enjoyable?
These are the two topics which we are inviting professional and membership bodies to discuss at a lunchtime workshop in Fleet Street, London, on Monday October 29 from 12.30-14.30.
The event is for anyone involved in creating or managing CPD within a membership organisation or professional body. There is no charge beyond the nominal £20 per head which we need to covering the catering costs.
This is a behind closed doors get-together for the memberhip sector to share experiences and discuss trends. We are currently looking for two speakers from the industry who have released a technically innovative CPD product which has had a positive effect on their members.
The event will be hosted at the offices of leading international law-firm, Taylor Wessing, who have been kind enough to support our events exploring technology and innovation on a number of occassions before.
We are restricted in this first event to 20 participants, but if it is successful we can organise follow-up events. Please sign-up here. Acceptances will be reserved for employees of bona fide professional bodies and we will decline anyone with an interest in selling CPD systems or courses.
At this event Page Lizard will be merely facilitators. Our expertise is delivering digital content and a number of our membership clients have asked us to manage CPD content and activities through apps. We therefore need to learn more about CPD and how you see the current trends developing.
I am grateful for the guidance of some leaders in professional development at flagship membership bodies in helping put this event together. We would welcome in advance topics and questions which you would like to discuss on the day to ensure that you get the best value.
Some of those questions already in are:
- How is the ability to record CPD on-the-go changing how we approach it
- Is there a way to make technology work better for professional bodies to audit CPD
- Does gamification – awarding badged and points to reward activities – work, or is it seen as condescending
- Has anyone used an app with messages and reminders to help people manage their CPD
- By making CPD easier to complete is there a danger of losing the reflective and learning elements of the process
Please let me know what topics are at the forefront of your mind and if there is a speaker or body which you would particularly like to hear from do let me know and I will approach them.
