A night of awards and digital publishing. These are our thoughts on PPA’s New Talent award.
What does this years PPA New Talent Awards tell us about new talent within digital publishing?
Not much unless you can work out why it is all concentrated to a handful of media companies.
To name a few: Dennis, Future, Immediate Media, IPC and ShortList.
I am sure that some of them are rightly judged to be hotbeds for new talent. However the awards can only go to companies that enter so its self-selection really. Page Lizard is sitting on our Mediterranean wall on this one. It was great to see student journalists, interns etc. shortlisted and winning awards. As one attendee pointed out to me if you were a budding magazine journalist looking for a job in digital publishing, which companies would you want to work for? Its worth winning awards for lots of reasons, one being to attract the best in new talent and cut your recruitment costs.
Either way we’re looking forward to seeing what next year’s awards will reveal about new digital publishing talent. In the mean time see what we’ve got to offer by having a rummage through our website. Alternatively you can talk to use on Twitter and LinkedIn.
