Cyber Essentials Certification
This is a government-backed, industry-supported scheme to help companies and organisations to protect themselves against common online threats.
To create the Cyber Essentials scheme, the Government worked with the Information Assurance for Small and Medium Enterprises (IASME) consortium and the Information Security Forum (ISF) and developed a set of basic technical controls to help companies and organisations protect themselves against common online security threats.
It was launched on 5 June 2014 and companies can gain a one of two Cyber Essentials badges. Cyber Essentials is backed by the Federation of Small Businesses, the CBI and a number of insurance organisations.
Since 1 October 2014, the Government requires that all suppliers bidding for contracts involving the handling of certain sensitive and personal information to be certified against the Cyber Essentials scheme.
